Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

There are some weeks when you’re in a crummy mood and you dwell too much on negative things when there are so many positive things that surround you. This, unfortunately, has been one of those weeks. I’m realizing it’s hard to stay irritated and negative when you start thinking positively. This will be a good weekly exercise for me and you should try it too.

Free movie passes!

movies

Every now and I then I get free passes to movies and the majority of the time I’m too lazy to drive an hour to Louisville to see the movie or I have other obligations. Cory and I were both interested in seeing “This is the End” so I e-mailed him as soon as I got the movie passes. It was entertaining but I think both of us would’ve been a little bit disappointed if we had paid for it.

Family Time!

I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with my sister and nieces lately and I got to see them a few times this past week. I helped my sister clean and organize some parts of her house. We cleaned a room and then this happened:

yay shredded paper!

I also got these cute photos of my niece the other night when she was down:

Good Doctors

Despite not having insurance, I’m very blessed to have great doctors. I had to go in this morning to get a routine checkup on my thyroid. Unfortunately, it is now worse than it was when I was first diagnosed. When I was diagnosed in November my TSH levels were about 9.6, February it was ~4.3, and today it was 9.980. Not good at all but I’m glad that’s the reason why I’ve wanted to sleep all of the time and haven’t felt like getting out of bed in the mornings. In the back of my mind, I knew I wasn’t being lazy but it’s nice to get reassurance from a Doctor that I’m not lazy and it’s to be expected when my TSH levels are this low. She upped my dosage and hopefully in three months when I go back it’ll be better.

Instagram

Why am I thankful for Instagram? If I could only keep one social media profile it would be instagram. I love instagram a lot. It’s a fun way for me to get creative with photos and it’s almost like a daily diary in picture form. I hit 1000 photos yesterday and it was exciting for some reason. Here are a couple of my favorites from this week:

Happy One Year!

year one

Cory and I celebrated our one year anniversary on Friday. The whole weekend was awesome really. Friday, we stayed in Louisville, had sushi at Caviar, followed by dessert at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen. Saturday, we went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness; which both of us really enjoyed, and had dinner at a steak house. I eat steak maybe twice a year and it really, really, really hit the spot this weekend. I wish we could have more weekends like this because it was wonderful and relaxing. It’s funny that I took photos of our food but never thought to take one of US. ha ha ha.

I got to see my niece at her dance recital. If you can’t tell from the photo, she was absolutely adorable!

Good makeup days

hai

Thank god for good makeup days! I almost always wear makeup to work but yesterday I put forth a little more effort because I had the time.

I turned into a makeup addict around April of last year when I found a great foundation I enjoyed wearing and I’ve been slowly been building a nice collection ever since. I still have a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m getting the hang of applying the basics correctly and figuring out what works for my complexion. It almost makes me want to post a new photo each week trying a different look. I said almost.. ;-)

Life Photography

San Francisco

If you can’t view this slideshow click here for photos.

This past weekend my brother Roy and I flew to San Francisco. This is my first time visiting San Francisco or California for that matter. I would have liked to visit “the mothership” in Cupertino but it was going to be about 2.5 hours by bus and we really didn’t have the time.

We scoured what seemed like most of San Francisco on our first day. My god is San Francisco hilly! I was warned about this before the trip but I didn’t realize how out of shape I am – well OK I know I’m out of shape but it was a big reminder! We went through Chinatown then North Beach for a boat ride around the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. At times the boat ride seemed more like a roller coaster because the waves were pretty big at one point causing the boat to bounce up and down. As a result, the last 15 minutes of the ride I was feeling pretty nauseous. I don’t see how people do cruises for several days, maybe with a larger boat you don’t feel a lot of the bumps. Later in the day we went to the Castro and I saw where Harvey Milk’s camera shop used to be and my brother pointed out several areas where memorable moments happened. I’m not too familiar with Harvey Milk outside of what I’ve seen in the film “Milk” but he seemed to have made an impact on Roy.

While we were in San Francisco we also went to the California Academy of Sciences with one of Roy’s friends and his wife. They had a rain forest exhibit going on that was pretty cool or shall I say humid! ;-) It didn’t seem like we were there very long before they made the announcement they were closing. We didn’t really plan that one out too well. That evening we went to an italian restaurant called Steps of Rome. Earlier in the week I got my hair cut and my stylist recommended going there and getting tiramisu for dessert. He was practically salivating when he was talking about the restaurant so I thought it would be a good idea. The pasta dish I had was just OK but he was right about the tiramisu; it was heavenly.

The trip seemed to go by really quick but then again most weekends do go by pretty fast. And as always I wish that I would’ve taken more pictures. I’m glad I had the experience of going to California, but I don’t think it’d be my first choice for vacation. A lot of people – which I’m surprised that’s even a factor given that I really like NYC. Then again it is NYC.

Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Despite feeling under the weather the last few days, I’ve had a good Christmas thus far. We had breakfast this morning, opened gifts, and visited my brother’s new house, and later had lunch there. After lunch I took a little nap in hopes that my stomach might stop aching from the lunch I had, but I think it only made it feel worse. Bleh!

The gifts that I received this year were: A ticket to see Ryan Adams in March (yes!!), season 2 of Heroes, 5-pack of 120 film for my Holga, gift cards to Target and Sephora, a Jawbone headset for my iPhone and misc goodies from Andy! I thought that I made out pretty good this year, even if Santa didn’t bring me the new Canon 5D Mark II. I guess with the economy money is pretty tight . . . Or maybe I just wasn’t that good? >;-)

What was your favorite present that you received this year?
