Day tripping: Indianapolis

Day tripping: Indianapolis

Yesterday Cory and I road tripped about two-hours to Indianapolis and part of the day exploring. We mapped out some sights we’d like to see and by the end of the of trip, we visited most of those places. It was nice because we so rarely have the same days off and we weren’t rushing; which is always nice. We first started out at the Love sculpture at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I would’ve liked to visited the Museum of Art, but alas, they’re closed on Mondays. :-\ We did have a nice time photographing the sculpture and walking around the grounds. Next, we headed to White Rive State Park where I wanted to walk the canal. We didn’t realize just how humid it was going to be and didn’t dress for it. We walked around for a while, had good conversations, and then decided we were getting hungry. This was a very good practice for our trip to Europe next month, because I realized my camera bag is too heavy, we both need to wear lighter clothes for extensive walking. As much as we both wanted to look cute yesterday, we both would’ve preferred to be comfortable by […]

Thankful Thursday

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here and now is a good time to post as any… Today I’m going to focus on one specific thing, not that I don’t have other things to be thankful for, but it’s coming on mine and Cory’s two-year anniversary at the end of the month. Here’s a little back story on meeting Cory… I had been on OKCupid for a few months and I wasn’t having much luck and was getting ready to close my account and continue to be single. Cory and I started chatting through the site and it was an instant connection, which eventually led to a 6-hour conversation on the phone. I’m not much of a talk on the phone type; neither of us are in fact, but it felt like we good friends right off the bat. We eventually met up in person and drove around chatting and hit it off in person too. Less than two weeks later we started dating and the rest is history. Cory is a very special person and has taught me things I couldn’t even imagine in the short time we’ve been together. I’ve never been so comfortable with someone that […]

Thankful Thursday

I took a little bit of an impromptu break from posting here due to too many things going on. I’ll try to stay on top of things from now on… Here are a few things I’m thankful for these past few weeks. My boyfriend I do need to pinch myself sometimes at how good I have it. We haven’t seen each other as much as we’d like the past few weeks due to schedule conflicts so when we’ve been together it’s felt special. A couple weeks ago we had a date night and went out to dinner and walked around downtown Lexington. It was definitely one of my favorite times together. Dental Insurance After spending an ungodly amount of money the past two months on a root canal, several fillings, and still needing some more work done, I finally decided it was time to buckle down and get dental insurance. I finally reaped one of the benefits last week and didn’t have to pay anything for my cleaning. You have no idea how good that felt. Exercise I recently signed up for a trainer and joined a sculpting class at the gym, and so that’s where I was spending my […]

Thankful Thursday

It’s been a very busy week so now that I’m finally sitting down to think about my many blessings this week I’m realizing just how sleepy I am. Needless to say, this week’s post will be short and sweet. Haircut I didn’t get a fancy new haircut but I did get those nasty split ends cut off and routine waxing. Seriously, there is something very wonderful about not having to tweeze one’s eyebrows even if it’s just for a few days. More energy I feel like my new dosage of Levothyroxine is actually making a difference in my energy levels. Sure, I’ve been tired lately but it’s been due to lack of sleep and not simply because my thyroid is being funky. I’ve been able to workout more this past week than I’ve been able to recently and I’ve been able to strength train. This gives me confidence that I can do this again. Training Speaking of the gym, I signed up with a personal trainer. I’ve wanted to for a long time, and even if it’s just for the summer, I need a kick in the butt to get things going again. I’ve taken one of Laura’s TRX classes […]

Thankful Thursday

Nice Weekends This weekend was my weekend off and I try to spend those weekends in Lexington with Cory. This weekend we met up Friday night for the Pride Parade in Louisville. This year seemed a little bit more rowdy than normal, at least there were more flying candy, beads, and frisbees (yes, frisbees!) than I remember. I love going to Louisville’s Pride Parade because it’s always so inspiring to see people out being themselves. I’m not sure why gay marriage is still an issue but I’m happy to be out supporting people who deserve the same rights that I take for granted. Saturday we got a few things done, napped (my favorite thing to do these days), I went to the MAC counter and bought a new lipstick, lip liner, and eye brow makeup, and we went to see “Before Midnight” at the Kentucky Theater. Quite honestly, I’m still thinking about it. I haven’t seen a good movie like that in a long time. It made me cry a couple times and it had a really sad tone but it was really good. Good makeup days Tuesday I had some down time for the first time in…forever! So I […]

Thankful Thursday

There are some weeks when you’re in a crummy mood and you dwell too much on negative things when there are so many positive things that surround you. This, unfortunately, has been one of those weeks. I’m realizing it’s hard to stay irritated and negative when you start thinking positively. This will be a good weekly exercise for me and you should try it too. Free movie passes! Every now and I then I get free passes to movies and the majority of the time I’m too lazy to drive an hour to Louisville to see the movie or I have other obligations. Cory and I were both interested in seeing “This is the End” so I e-mailed him as soon as I got the movie passes. It was entertaining but I think both of us would’ve been a little bit disappointed if we had paid for it. Family Time! I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with my sister and nieces lately and I got to see them a few times this past week. I helped my sister clean and organize some parts of her house. We cleaned a room and then this happened: I also […]

Thankful Thursday

Happy One Year! Cory and I celebrated our one year anniversary on Friday. The whole weekend was awesome really. Friday, we stayed in Louisville, had sushi at Caviar, followed by dessert at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen. Saturday, we went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness; which both of us really enjoyed, and had dinner at a steak house. I eat steak maybe twice a year and it really, really, really hit the spot this weekend. I wish we could have more weekends like this because it was wonderful and relaxing. It’s funny that I took photos of our food but never thought to take one of US. ha ha ha. Dance recital I got to see my niece at her dance recital. If you can’t tell from the photo, she was absolutely adorable! Good makeup days Thank god for good makeup days! I almost always wear makeup to work but yesterday I put forth a little more effort because I had the time. I turned into a makeup addict around April of last year when I found a great foundation I enjoyed wearing and I’ve been slowly been building a nice collection ever since. I still have a […]

Thankful Thursday

Here’s a quick and short list of things for this week’s edition of Thankful Thursday. What things do you have to be thankful for this week? Family time! I got to hang with my nieces for a little while tonight! My youngest niece seems to be warming up to me a bit more… You know, assuming Grandma isn’t around and I have something she wants! ;D I actually had time to paint my nails! Tomorrow is mine and Cory’s one year anniversary (!) How did he put up with me for this long?! So I suppose I should look presentable when I see him tomorrow night. ;D Essie Bachelorette Bash, Deborah Lippmann Sweet Dreams, Julep Jackie I have a wonderful dentist Let’s just say I’m going to be seeing my dentist a lot for the next year or so. I went to him again recently due to some pain in a tooth. I was really hoping for a simple filling but I knew it struck a nerve from the pain I was having. In addition to needing a root canal, 1/3 of my mouth is full of cavities (yay!), and I need a deep cleaning. Not to mention, the other […]

Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon has been on my bucket list of places to see before I die for a long time. Cory, too, has also longed to go, and so it seemed like a good choice for our first vacation together. We were leaving a few days after my finals so I didn’t have a lot of time to think about the trip, what we would do, etc. We were just going for a weekend so we really couldn’t plan much anyway. I knew I wanted to see the Watchtower and of course the canyon. I was feeling a bit nervous because this was my first trip with a significant other. Cory and I get along well and haven’t argued about anything. So my worry was “what if he decides after this trip he doesn’t want to be with me anymore?!” You know the usual irrational thoughts. We left on a Saturday morning; we had to be up at 4AM to get to the airport in time and catch our plane. Knowing we had to be up that early I didn’t sleep well and woke up way before the alarm. We made it to Phoenix by 9am their time. As we […]

Style Icon : Teer Wayde

I could spend a lot of time on Pinterest, thank god I don’t have unlimited data on my cell phone plan because I’d probably never leave the house! I spend too much time pinning decorating ideas for my imaginary home, finding new recipes, and looking at fashion. There was one girl I kept (unintentionally) pinning to my body love and stylish boards; her name is Teer Wayde. She’s a gorgeous plus-size model whose website is accurately called Curves to Kill. She’s like a mix of rockabilly and pinup. I love her style and her attitude in her photos. How I wish I could afford the clothes that she models; seriously who can afford $190 for a cardigan? If anyone has any suggestions on where you can find affordable pinup or rockabilly type clothes please share links! A couple months back I told Cory that ideally I’d like to look like her body wise. According to her website, she’s a size 12-14; I’m currently a 16. I’ve never wanted to be skinny but I think I would look good around her size. More than anything I want to be happy and healthy — that’s the primary goal. I guess I should […]
