Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here and now is a good time to post as any…

Today I’m going to focus on one specific thing, not that I don’t have other things to be thankful for, but it’s coming on mine and Cory’s two-year anniversary at the end of the month.

Here’s a little back story on meeting Cory… I had been on OKCupid for a few months and I wasn’t having much luck and was getting ready to close my account and continue to be single. Cory and I started chatting through the site and it was an instant connection, which eventually led to a 6-hour conversation on the phone. I’m not much of a talk on the phone type; neither of us are in fact, but it felt like we good friends right off the bat. We eventually met up in person and drove around chatting and hit it off in person too. Less than two weeks later we started dating and the rest is history.

Cory is a very special person and has taught me things I couldn’t even imagine in the short time we’ve been together. I’ve never been so comfortable with someone that I feel I can let him know everything that goes through my mind without fear of judgement. He’s stood by me and took care of me when I was sick; both mentally and physically, and for that reason I am eternally grateful. You’re my everything, Cory. Love you! xoxo

Enough of my mushiness… We’re headed to Indianapolis on Monday for a day trip, and Europe in less than a month; specifically London and Amsterdam. I’m sure I’ll have many exciting things to share with you guys from that trip and lots of photos! Hopefully I won’t be too lazy to post about our adventures! ;D

Thankful Thursday

I took a little bit of an impromptu break from posting here due to too many things going on. I’ll try to stay on top of things from now on… Here are a few things I’m thankful for these past few weeks.

My boyfriend

I do need to pinch myself sometimes at how good I have it. We haven’t seen each other as much as we’d like the past few weeks due to schedule conflicts so when we’ve been together it’s felt special. A couple weeks ago we had a date night and went out to dinner and walked around downtown Lexington. It was definitely one of my favorite times together.

Dental Insurance

After spending an ungodly amount of money the past two months on a root canal, several fillings, and still needing some more work done, I finally decided it was time to buckle down and get dental insurance. I finally reaped one of the benefits last week and didn’t have to pay anything for my cleaning. You have no idea how good that felt.

I recently signed up for a trainer and joined a sculpting class at the gym, and so that’s where I was spending my time rather than posting here. At least I have a good excuse! I posted about the class here and here if you’re interested in reading about my experience.

Thanks to getting out of my comfort zone I’m feeling more inspired to watch what I’m eating and push on through to my goal of getting back in the 100s and I’m getting close. I just need to keep my eye on the prize and try not to reward myself as much as I do. It takes a lot of will-power; something I don’t have with certain foods.

Here are a couple photos from walks this week:

I hope everyone is doing well and have plenty of things to be thankful for. Please feel free to share them here!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

It’s been a very busy week so now that I’m finally sitting down to think about my many blessings this week I’m realizing just how sleepy I am. Needless to say, this week’s post will be short and sweet.

I didn’t get a fancy new haircut but I did get those nasty split ends cut off and routine waxing. Seriously, there is something very wonderful about not having to tweeze one’s eyebrows even if it’s just for a few days.

More energy

I feel like my new dosage of Levothyroxine is actually making a difference in my energy levels. Sure, I’ve been tired lately but it’s been due to lack of sleep and not simply because my thyroid is being funky. I’ve been able to workout more this past week than I’ve been able to recently and I’ve been able to strength train. This gives me confidence that I can do this again.

Speaking of the gym, I signed up with a personal trainer. I’ve wanted to for a long time, and even if it’s just for the summer, I need a kick in the butt to get things going again. I’ve taken one of Laura’s TRX classes before and I was very challenged the entire time. I actually grew to love that knot in my stomach I had at the end of class.

As I was leaving the gym yesterday I noticed there were signs up for Laura’s group classes. I kept thinking about it and finally decided to sign up for a Sculpt/kettlebells class as week. It’s an hour long 4-week class that started today. That whole experience deserves it’s own post so I’ll leave it at that.

I hope everyone is having a good week and can find many things to be thankful for!

Nice Weekends

This weekend was my weekend off and I try to spend those weekends in Lexington with Cory. This weekend we met up Friday night for the Pride Parade in Louisville. This year seemed a little bit more rowdy than normal, at least there were more flying candy, beads, and frisbees (yes, frisbees!) than I remember. I love going to Louisville’s Pride Parade because it’s always so inspiring to see people out being themselves. I’m not sure why gay marriage is still an issue but I’m happy to be out supporting people who deserve the same rights that I take for granted.

Saturday we got a few things done, napped (my favorite thing to do these days), I went to the MAC counter and bought a new lipstick, lip liner, and eye brow makeup, and we went to see “Before Midnight” at the Kentucky Theater. Quite honestly, I’m still thinking about it. I haven’t seen a good movie like that in a long time. It made me cry a couple times and it had a really sad tone but it was really good.

Good makeup days

makeup 6/18

Tuesday I had some down time for the first time in…forever! So I decided to play around with my makeup. I felt inspired by a tutorial I watched earlier in the day on winged eyeliner. Seriously, I’ve tried doing this technique several times in the past and it always looked like a kid drew the line. I was determined to get it right, preferably before it went out of style, and I finally got it… at least by my standards. heh. 😀

If you know me, you know I’m a die hard Hanson fan! They released a new album called “Anthem” this week. This is the first album since I’ve been a fan that I haven’t listened to the music on the album before it was released aside from the single — not even snippets. It was like Christmas because I had all these new songs to listen to. I’ve only listened to it once all the way through but I know it will grow on me. I’m happy they’re still making music and I’ve been blessed to see them as many times as I have in the past. Is it October yet? 😀

Thankful Thursday

There are some weeks when you’re in a crummy mood and you dwell too much on negative things when there are so many positive things that surround you. This, unfortunately, has been one of those weeks. I’m realizing it’s hard to stay irritated and negative when you start thinking positively. This will be a good weekly exercise for me and you should try it too.

Free movie passes!

Every now and I then I get free passes to movies and the majority of the time I’m too lazy to drive an hour to Louisville to see the movie or I have other obligations. Cory and I were both interested in seeing “This is the End” so I e-mailed him as soon as I got the movie passes. It was entertaining but I think both of us would’ve been a little bit disappointed if we had paid for it.

Family Time!

I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with my sister and nieces lately and I got to see them a few times this past week. I helped my sister clean and organize some parts of her house. We cleaned a room and then this happened:

yay shredded paper!

I also got these cute photos of my niece the other night when she was down:

Good Doctors

Despite not having insurance, I’m very blessed to have great doctors. I had to go in this morning to get a routine checkup on my thyroid. Unfortunately, it is now worse than it was when I was first diagnosed. When I was diagnosed in November my TSH levels were about 9.6, February it was ~4.3, and today it was 9.980. Not good at all but I’m glad that’s the reason why I’ve wanted to sleep all of the time and haven’t felt like getting out of bed in the mornings. In the back of my mind, I knew I wasn’t being lazy but it’s nice to get reassurance from a Doctor that I’m not lazy and it’s to be expected when my TSH levels are this low. She upped my dosage and hopefully in three months when I go back it’ll be better.

Why am I thankful for Instagram? If I could only keep one social media profile it would be instagram. I love instagram a lot. It’s a fun way for me to get creative with photos and it’s almost like a daily diary in picture form. I hit 1000 photos yesterday and it was exciting for some reason. Here are a couple of my favorites from this week:

Happy One Year!

year one

Cory and I celebrated our one year anniversary on Friday. The whole weekend was awesome really. Friday, we stayed in Louisville, had sushi at Caviar, followed by dessert at Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen. Saturday, we went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness; which both of us really enjoyed, and had dinner at a steak house. I eat steak maybe twice a year and it really, really, really hit the spot this weekend. I wish we could have more weekends like this because it was wonderful and relaxing. It’s funny that I took photos of our food but never thought to take one of US. ha ha ha.

Dance recital

I got to see my niece at her dance recital. If you can’t tell from the photo, she was absolutely adorable!

Good makeup days

Thank god for good makeup days! I almost always wear makeup to work but yesterday I put forth a little more effort because I had the time.

I turned into a makeup addict around April of last year when I found a great foundation I enjoyed wearing and I’ve been slowly been building a nice collection ever since. I still have a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m getting the hang of applying the basics correctly and figuring out what works for my complexion. It almost makes me want to post a new photo each week trying a different look. I said almost.. 😉

Here’s a quick and short list of things for this week’s edition of Thankful Thursday. What things do you have to be thankful for this week?

Family time!

I got to hang with my nieces for a little while tonight! My youngest niece seems to be warming up to me a bit more… You know, assuming Grandma isn’t around and I have something she wants! ;D

I actually had time to paint my nails!

Tomorrow is mine and Cory’s one year anniversary (!) How did he put up with me for this long?! So I suppose I should look presentable when I see him tomorrow night. ;D

I have a wonderful dentist

Let’s just say I’m going to be seeing my dentist a lot for the next year or so. I went to him again recently due to some pain in a tooth. I was really hoping for a simple filling but I knew it struck a nerve from the pain I was having. In addition to needing a root canal, 1/3 of my mouth is full of cavities (yay!), and I need a deep cleaning. Not to mention, the other three wisdom teeth need to be surgically removed at some point. I’m not shocked by this given my limited contact with dentists in my life.

Tuesday I had my first root canal. It wasn’t the most pleasant experience in the world but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I had some minor pain afterward but not bad in the grand scheme of things. If you’re in Nelson County, definitely check out Hedgespeth Family Denistry; I cannot recommend them enough.

Thankful Thursday

I’ve been trying to come up with ways to force myself to blog more often, and I like the idea of posting some positive things from the previous week. Too often we focus more on the negative in life and less on the good; I know I’m guilty of that a lot lately. So here are a few things I’m thankful for during the past week.

I got to see a friend

Last week I got to visit my friend Kathy in Louisville. We had dinner and we got to hang out afterward and chill. Too often our visits are only limited to dinner so it’s hard to fully catch up. I also have to brag on her because she’s doing really well exercising and getting healthy. Go Kathy! 😀

I got to see Cory

I think this weekend was the first time I’ve seen him since our trek to the Grand Canyon a couple of weeks ago. (Too long!) We went to see the Dalai Lama speak in Louisville. It was an interesting experience to say the least. Also, I think it was the first time I’ve been to any sort of venue recently where I didn’t see a single person holding up a phone taking photos or recording anything.

I had some nice walks

I’ve had some very good walks recently thanks to the weather and my energy level. I’ve been able to run (it’s probably more of a jog to seasoned runners but who cares!) a little longer which always makes me feel good. Here are a few photos from recent walks:
