San Francisco

San Francisco

Cory has been talking about taking me to San Francisco for most of our relationship and we finally had a chance to get away a few weekends ago. I have been to San Francisco and he’s been but we haven’t been together. Since I knew we were going to San Francisco, and I knew buying the lens I wanted (24-105mm f/4L) was out of the question given how often I take pictures with my DSLR, Cory opted to rent the lens I wanted as a birthday gift. I haven’t rented a lens before and it seemed like LensRentals.com had the best reviews online. I think the price was pretty fair, and you can rent for however long you’d like, and the lens was in perfect condition. I would definitely use them again if I’m in the market for a rental. We visited Apple’s HQs in Cupertino and walked and drove around San Francisco. My favorite stops on this trip were Chinatown and Lands End. Here are some of my favorite photos from the trip. Final verdict: Going somewhere new and exploring one of my hobbies (photography) again certainly helped to get my creative juices flowing. In my opinion, this was […]

Rediscovering myself

Rediscovering myself

Original image by Greg Rakozy The end of 2015 has come to a close which naturally has one reflecting and setting goals for the new year. Many of these said goals will fall by the wayside a few weeks in. 2015 had its up and downs for me. The pros: I moved in with Cory. I’ve never lived with anyone other than family, and so it’s definitely added a new dynamic to our relationship. I also started a new job that I love. The cons: Mom had a health scare and Dad’s health is still up in the air. The pros aside, I feel I’ve stayed rather stagnate. For the most part, I can tell you what most weeks are going to consist of, because I’ve definitely fallen into a routine. It’s no one’s fault other than my own. Cory and I were talking a couple nights ago and he asked me: What is my thing? Meaning: what are my hobbies? It was a bit of a wakeup call because I simply said, “I don’t know what my thing is” and started crying.   I love watching “beauty gurus” on Youtube, is that a thing? I do love makeup and that’s probably the closest thing to a hobby that I […]

American Sign Museum

American Sign Museum

Last weekend Cory and I went to Cincinnati for a low-key mini vacation. We haven’t been anywhere since Europe and we were needing to get away and do little-to-nothing. One of the few plans we had while in Cincinnati was to use a Groupon he bought for the American Sign Museum. I’m so glad he found it because I wouldn’t have went otherwise . . . and it was amazing! It was a tiny museum; like three rooms, but it was nicely done and very photo-worthy. Don’t believe me? Check out some of these photos: Or in color? Hmmm… While we were there I was inspired to take some photos that I could later edit with the Party Party App from the amazing people over at A Beautiful Mess and I think they turned out well for what they are. I really hate to admit it but my iPhone is replacing my DSLR but I’ll never part with it. It’s so easy to do fun things (quickly) with the iPhone and it’s super portable. I took some photos with my DSLR while at the sign museum, but from what I could see on my tiny screen I liked the photos […]

European Adventures

European Adventures

We recently returned from a trip to Europe; London and Amsterdam specifically. This wasn’t my first overseas trip; I visited Japan a few years back. This trip, however, was definitely stressful in terms of traveling. Long story short (in case we’re not friends on Facebook): we had several layovers and our first flight ended up being cancelled after spending almost three hours (!!!!) on the tarmac. The travel gods were on our side that day and thankfully we caught a direct flight to London from Chicago. London We had one full day in London without travel and it feels like we didn’t walk very far but we covered a lot of ground in that one day. We visited the London Eye, Big Ben/Palace of Westminster (MY FAVORITE!), Westminster Abbey, St. James Park, and Buckingham Palace. I was a little apprehensive about spending a lot of money on things but the London Eye is worth getting on. We paid extra for the fast pass and got on almost instantaneously and it wasn’t crowded in the capsules which made taking photos easy. I expected it to be touristy but it showed off breathtaking views of the city. I would do it again! […]

Day tripping: Indianapolis

Day tripping: Indianapolis

Yesterday Cory and I road tripped about two-hours to Indianapolis and part of the day exploring. We mapped out some sights we’d like to see and by the end of the of trip, we visited most of those places. It was nice because we so rarely have the same days off and we weren’t rushing; which is always nice. We first started out at the Love sculpture at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. I would’ve liked to visited the Museum of Art, but alas, they’re closed on Mondays. :-\ We did have a nice time photographing the sculpture and walking around the grounds. Next, we headed to White Rive State Park where I wanted to walk the canal. We didn’t realize just how humid it was going to be and didn’t dress for it. We walked around for a while, had good conversations, and then decided we were getting hungry. This was a very good practice for our trip to Europe next month, because I realized my camera bag is too heavy, we both need to wear lighter clothes for extensive walking. As much as we both wanted to look cute yesterday, we both would’ve preferred to be comfortable by […]

Style Icon : Teer Wayde

I could spend a lot of time on Pinterest, thank god I don’t have unlimited data on my cell phone plan because I’d probably never leave the house! I spend too much time pinning decorating ideas for my imaginary home, finding new recipes, and looking at fashion. There was one girl I kept (unintentionally) pinning to my body love and stylish boards; her name is Teer Wayde. She’s a gorgeous plus-size model whose website is accurately called Curves to Kill. She’s like a mix of rockabilly and pinup. I love her style and her attitude in her photos. How I wish I could afford the clothes that she models; seriously who can afford $190 for a cardigan? If anyone has any suggestions on where you can find affordable pinup or rockabilly type clothes please share links! A couple months back I told Cory that ideally I’d like to look like her body wise. According to her website, she’s a size 12-14; I’m currently a 16. I’ve never wanted to be skinny but I think I would look good around her size. More than anything I want to be happy and healthy — that’s the primary goal. I guess I should […]

Week Seven – Rewards

It’s been a good exercising week — at least I think so! I recently purchased a Fitbit and I’ve been having some inaccuracies with it and so I’ve had to estimate how I’ve been doing each day in terms of mileage and calories burned. From the looks of Google I’m the only person who didn’t like theirs. In all honestly, I should’ve done more research before purchasing it but I read countless reviews where people raved about them. Now I’m back to my $14 pedometer that works pretty accurately out of the box and gives me the exact information I want. With only 3 pairs of “workout” bottoms I have to do laundry a couple times during the week, and since I’ve been busy every day this week I’ve fallen behind. There were a pair of workout shorts I bought earlier this summer that have been sitting in the bottom of my drawer barely worn, because they were too tight to be seen out in public in. I couldn’t even be bothered to wear them just around the farm because they reminded me I really needed to lose weight. I reluctantly put them on Thursday morning and they fit really […]

Week six

About a week ago I finally had enough of being sick and went to the doctor. I very rarely go to the doctor because most of the time they give me a slightly higher dose of something I could get over the counter and it’s a waste of money since I don’t have health insurance. Usually after a week of a cold I am feeling better, but it only seemed like it was getting worse and it was affecting my sleep. Long story short, I had a sinus infection. Thankfully, I’m feeling much more like myself now. This past weekend I went to Cincinnati to visit Matt and Lindsey. It was nice just hanging out, taking photos at a couple parks, and eating lots of good food. I have some left over Green Lantern pizza (mozzarella cheese, garlic, pesto, mushrooms, goat cheese, and artichokes) from Dewey’s that I’ll be rehashing today for lunch. I got back yesterday and I was a little apprehensive about stepping on the scale this morning. Despite not exercising as much as I had been the past few days and eating lots of good food I lost a pound. Which brought down my total to 15.6 […]

What I did this summer

My summer has been filled with highs and lows. I finished up the math class I was taking this summer a few weeks ago. I was only two points away from receiving an A in the course, but near the end of the course things came up and I couldn’t dedicate the time I had been. Which I guess that’s good enough segue into my next subject. In July, my Dad was diagnosed with cancer. He discovered lumps in his breast which got him to the doctor in the first place, but a CT scan also found spots in his lung, and later another doctor thought there might be something on his liver as well. It has been a really stressful time for all of us, because it seemed like a waiting game between tests to find out what type of cancer it was and how far along it was. Not only that but my Dad is 72 years old so that’s also something else to worry about. They removed his breast and we finally got the news that the spots in his lung were most likely Histoplasmosis and it may just be cysts on his lungs; and so they […]

Technology break

Last Saturday I spent most of the day away from the computer and my iPhone. It was such a nice feeling not to feel the need to check Twitter, Facebook, etc. every hour or so. I don’t know why I feel the need to check it so frequently other than it’s a habit. I’ve decided this Saturday I’m taking another break from technology. I’d love to do dedicate an entire weekend to this, but I’m not sure I can do an entire weekend. Saturday I’m attending a portrait seminar provided by a local photography meetup group and later in the evening I’m going out with friends to a show and to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Needless to say, it won’t be difficult staying away from my phone and computer that day. I’ve been staying home lately because my budget is tightening up and the internet has been my source of entertainment. I’m feeling worn down, and since having internet at home again my sleep schedule has been screwed up. There were times when I didn’t sleep well before but it’s definitely heightened. I just assume it’s due to staying up late working on homework (online), or mindlessly refreshing random social […]
