Project 31

Beer Sampler

23 : 31

I’m happy to report that Project 31 is finally complete! I wish it only took me 31 days to complete but it took me about 50 days. This is the first photo project I’ve completed so it’s better late than never. I’ve tried Project 365 in 2008 and 2009 and failed miserably. I think the furthest I got my first year was in the early 100s. In 2009, I attempted Project 50 but I only got through 25 days. Can you tell I have commitment issues when it comes to “artistic” projects? I would like to try Project 365 again but only when I’m done with school and living on my own.

I could have completed this project in 31 days but I didn’t like forcing it. Some days my life isn’t glamorous; I know it’s hard to believe! There were some days I didn’t leave the house and I didn’t want to put up a crappy picture just to have one to put up. I did that a couple days early on and decided I’d rather take my time…even if it takes two months!

There were days when it felt like pulling teeth getting my camera out to take a picture. The picture of my niece and the beer sampler shot were one of those days. I’m so glad I did “tough” it out because they’re both my favorite photos from the project.

My friend Kathy has been trying to talk me into doing a Project 52. Part of me thinks, it’s only a photo a week for a year but part of me doesn’t want to do it. It all stems back to the commitment issues I mentioned above. For now I’m going to enjoy this accomplishment of finally completing a photo project. …and hey! I have a new picture of myself out of this project!

these kinds of consecutive photo projects are just hard. and some days you just don’t feel like it. i’ve been thinking a lot about it, because part of me really wants to go for another p365 starting on my 30th birthday in july… and am feeling all nostalgic after going through my previous years of daily photos to make a book of them.

but it’s so tough. and so many days are such work.

what if you did something similar to the 100 strangers project – where you try to just pick a number, like project 100 and just take 100 photos on 100 different days, but if you skip a few days here and there, that’s totally okay? 52 weeks projects are nice bc it doesn’t have to be any given day, and no one really is keeping track enough to know if you fudge it and, say, take 2 photos in one week but number them differently… i don’t know!

I think if you finished p365 once you can get through again. Do it!!!

The 100 strangers project is an idea but it’d definitely have to be less than 100 since I’m uncomfortable enough doing portraits. Maybe I could do a project where I take a photo of a friend each week or whenever I am able to get to it. Just to step out of my comfort zone.

It’s challenging to produce something on a regular basis, especially when there is no inspiration to help the process along. I applaud you for being able to finish the project. I tend to stop halfway through with projects like these.

The photos look great, by the way. I enjoyed looking through them all. =)

Thanks, Jenny! I completely understand about not having any money. Fortunately, I still had some time on my Elegant Themes membership otherwise I wouldn’t have this awesome (at least to me it’s awesome) layout.

You never know, I might do it. Since I’ve been doing this project for almost 2 months I’m starting to feel bad that I’m not taking more pictures.
